Open - Camlann, Estervale, Sleeping Woods, Lake Raienia, wherever!! Pick a place! =)
Hunter was in an unusual place. Uncertainty. He had stood in the sleeping woods, looking for Red - scenting for her when he could - and it was clear she'd gone somewhere. He headed into Camlann - she had been curious about going there, and worried she gone off by herself and gotten herself in trouble.

But something unusual was going on in that kingdom. The guards all seemed a little nervous, and there seemed to be more of them than usual. Moreover, each had no less than two weapons, often an iron sword and bow with quiver full of metal-tipped arrows, also likely iron. Hunter's brows furrowed. So. There was a reason Goodfellow wanted eyes on Camlann. If only Hunter knew exactly what was going on and why...

But that wasn't his concern. His concern was finding Red, for her own safety, and to try the vial of liquid Goodfellow had given him. The thought of being so close and yet so far away from the object of his desire had him uncertain, unsure of his next move, and unsure where to even find her.

He had even headed into Estervale, wondering if she'd gone there instead. He tried Lake Raienia, for maybe she'd gotten lost or distracted by the lake. They turned up nothing. He leaned against the nearest tree and sighed, planning his next move.

The Piper, ever traveling had made his way to Estervale. Picking his way along, he thought to pull out his harmonica for a bit of entertainment. He had the level of skill to pipe and walk, had learned it in his childhood from his father. He played a doleful tune, they seemed the only sort he could conjure in his lonely wanderings.

He smiled warily to a stranger leaned against a tree. He wasn't sure he should stop or if he should continue on his way. He thought to create conversation, a simple travelers trick that this gruff stranger would probably pick up on. "Hello," he said cordially, stepping from the path and towards the trees. "Could you tell me where I am?"

Hunter looked up from his vial, from his musings, at the music, hearing it shortly before he smeeled the stranger, and both well before he saw him. He gave the traveler a quick once-over when he stepped off the path towards him and answered gruffly, "Estervale."

He wasn't exactly hostile, or even off-putting, but it was clear small talk wasn't exactly his strongest suit.

"Estervale," the Piper repeated as if this were a perplexing thing. "Is there much to offer in this Estervale?" he asked, as if it didn't matter if Hunter replied or not.

Hunter didn't mean to come off rude when he responded, "Damned if I know. Haven't been there much, or long." It was just the bare bones truth. Camlann he knew more about. Estervale he was really only beginning to open up some business in. Then an attempt at conversation, "You looking for something in particular?"

"Nothing really," the Piper replied earnestly. "I'm just a wanderer. I keep hoping something will catch my eye."

Hunter finally stuck the vial back inside his inner pocket, as though he were momentarily done looking at it. "Estervale's a decently sized place. I'm sure something's bound to."

Piper nodded and stood awkwardly in silence. He didn't know this man of sparse words and wasn't certain he was even the sort to keep in company with someone of his own talents. "Have you been to other places here?" he asked suddenly as the thought struck him. "I'm curious as to the lay of the lands. I don't think I've found a proper place for a poor Piper yet."

Hunter moved from the treeline, closer to Piper and shrugged. "I've been in the West. Ozland or some such place. It's very... odd. The woods to the northwest are full of magic, which can be beneficial or tricky. I've been in Camlann. A stern place. Not sure they'd much appreciate a musician, but maybe they need one. And Estervale, pretty nice place might do well there. There's not much down by the lake but water. And sea creatures. Not sure about them." A bit of a smile twisted his lips. "Did that help?"

"Your knowledge may prove invaluable. I found Oz to be a peculiar place as well." In fact, I grew over 12 feet tall and only shrank after drinking one of those random potions Alice was selling. "I don't see myself going back there."

"Peculiar. That's the word for it. I went to sell my wares and found myself 'adopted' by a very interesting and imaginative little girl. A bit obsessed with pirates." Bewildering as that had been, Hunter had to admit that little excursion with Pippi had been fun. He needed to stop by and see her again, like he'd promised.

"Who isn't obsessed with pirates?" he asked oddly, for certainly the Piper had never been obsessed with them. Perhaps a bit fascinated, but never such a fanboy to go chasing after them with his pipe. He'd learned how to rope a pirate very early in his wanderings and it usually led to foul adventures with empty pockets and owed money all around. At least in his experience. It seemed every pirate he ever met was a furious gambler.

"I am not," Hunter replied. Until his adventure with Pippi, pirates hadn't really crossed his mind, at least not that he could remember. Sure they likely had when he was a boy, but that was a while ago. "I supppose we all have our own obsessions." He absentmindedly stroked the red cloth in his inner pocket as he spoke.

That was something the Piper could not deny. "So very true," he said. He extended a hand to shake. "It was very nice meeting you," he said quickly as he felt that the conversation had come to a natural close. "Perhaps we will cross paths again someday and share stories of our wild adventures in Pentamerone."

Hunter tilted his head and shook Piper's hand. "Perhaps we will at that. Do you have a name I can call you by if next we meet?"
From: [info]piedandpiped Date: 04/03/2007 20:18:08

"Piper," he replied cordially. "You can add the mister or leave it off. It never much bothered me either way. You are?"
From: [info]whos_afraid Date: 04/03/2007 20:23:36

"Hunter," he responded with an amused grin. Both names that were more their professional than what they were called at birth. "Both who you are and what you do, hmm?" He picked up his swath of furs and skins and gave Piper a wave. "See you around, Piper. Hope you enjoy your stay in Estervale."
From: [info]piedandpiped Date: 04/03/2007 20:32:26

He nodded to his new acquaintance, and smiled. "Indeed. I hope you fare well where e're you end up."
From: [info]whos_afraid Date: 04/03/2007 20:38:39

"And the same to you." Hunter left Piper to continue into Estervale, he himself heading back towards Camlann. If he couldn't find Red yet, he could at least try to see what else was happening in that kingdom.
